You may not have thought about seeing a physical therapist for your headaches, but the vast majority of headaches are related to underlying musculoskeletal problems which physical therapists are highly skilled at treating.
By far the most common type of headache is the muscle tension type. Stress, injuries, and postural problems in the neck can all produce significant muscle tension in the neck and shoulder areas. This muscle tension in turn can produce headaches, which are most commonly felt in back of the head at the base of the skull and/or above and behind the eyes.
Even migraine and cluster headaches can be triggered by musculoskeletal problems, so physical therapy can be an important part of treatment for those headache types as well.
In our San Antonio office, we provide a variety of treatments that can dramatically reduce or even eliminate chronic headache problems. So if you’ve been dealing with headaches and have not found adequate relief, we recommend that you let us check things out and find out what we can do for you.
