There are many causes for back pain, but most are related to musculoskeletal injuries and/or poor biomechanics, including:
-
Traumas such as auto accidents and falls
-
“Microtraumas” such as chronic poor posture or repetetive motions
-
Improper lifting
-
Physical de-conditioning due to lack of exercise or injury-related immobilization
These causes can result in a variety of diagnoses, such as:
-
Strains and sprains
-
Spinal facet syndrome
-
Spinal subluxations
-
Disc herniation and/or degeneration
-
Degenerative arthritis
Regardless of the cause and diagnosis, in the early stages of treatment our goal is to provide maximum symptom relief as quickly as possible. Once the worst of the pain is gone, we then shift our focus toward identifying and correcting the underlying functional problems that remain and/or may have caused the pain to develop in the first place.
