Arthritis

backpain6

Arthritis can effect most of the joints of the body.

The most common form is degenerative arthritis (also called osteoarthritis).  This type is generally due to excess “wear and tear” on joints that causes the joints to break down faster than they can repair themselves.  It most commonly involves the joints of the spine, the shoulders, the hips, the knees, the hands, and the feet.

Inflammatory types of arthritis like rheumatoid and are often related to auto-immune disorders.

Regardless of the type of arthritis and the joints it effects, there is much that can be done with physical therapy techniques to relieve pain and enhance joint mobility for most patients.

In many cases, the symptoms of arthritis are actually related as much or more to the reactions in the surrounding muscles as to the damaged joints themselves.

While arthritis cannot usually be fully reversed, the symptoms can be greatly reduced in most cases, allowing patients to live more comfortable and active lives.
